OfficersOfficersThe Officers at McGraw-Hill Ryerson are responsible for the day-to-day operations of their divisions. This executive committee consists of the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer, three Presidents responsible for the revenue divisions, and three Executive Vice Presidents.
Clive Powell is the Executive Vice President, Editorial, Production and Design. Clive has served in his current position since 1999. He joined McGraw-Hill Ryerson in 1977 as copy editor and has held several positions since then including supervising editor, editorial and production services manager and director of production. David Swail is the President and Chief Executive Officer. He joined the company in May 2006. David has spent his entire career in publishing, including magazines, newspapers, and online services. Before joining McGraw-Hill Ryerson he served as vice president of Operations, as well as interim publisher at Sun Media Corporation, Canada's leading media company. David began his career at Maclean Hunter Publishing in 1987, where he was responsible for the overall management of business and consumer magazines. In 1995, he moved to Southam Inc., where he was senior vice president and general manager of the National Post newspaper and affiliated businesses. After CanWest Publications acquired Southam in 2000, David moved to the corporate side and ran all budgeting, planning and reporting for CanWest's newspapers. David holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. Gordon Dyer is Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary-Treasurer of McGraw-Hill Ryerson. His primary mandate includes performance assessment, asset management and treasury as well as being responsible for all duties as required of a publicly listed corporation. Gordon joined the company in June 2003. Prior to joining McGraw-Hill Ryerson, Gordon was Vice-President Finance for Teletech Canada, and held several senior finance positions at SHL Systemhouse. Marshall I. Morris is the Executive Vice President, Customer Satisfaction. In this position his areas of responsibility include, Customer Service, Inventory and the Warehouse. Marshall focuses on leveraging process efficiency, and customer satisfaction - both internal and external. Prior to joining McGraw-Hill Ryerson in April 1996, Marshall held positions of increasing scope and responsibility in the areas of finance, accounting, operational management and logistics with his previous employer, Canadian Tire Corporation, Ltd. Nancy Gerrish was appointed President of the Elementary and Secondary Division in June 2000, having been appointed Vice-President in October 1999. Prior to joining the School Division in 1994 as Director of Sales and Marketing, she held a number of positions with increasing responsibilities at Harcourt Brace & Company, including National Marketing Manager, Director of Marketing, Director of Sales and Marketing. Since starting her publishing career in 1985 as a School sales representative, Nancy has been successful in developing, marketing and selling resources for Grades K - 12 across the full range of subject areas. She serves on the Government Relations Committee for the Canadian Educational Resources Council and on the Elementary & High School Advisory Committee for CANCOPY. Prior to his appointment as President of the Higher Education Division at McGraw-Hill Ryerson, Patrick served as the Vice-President and Publisher since he joined the Company in January 2000. He has worked with McGraw Hill companies worldwide to help develop business strategies and local publishing programs. He currently sits on the board of directors for the Institute for the Advancement of Teaching in Higher Education and is a member of the Canadian Publisher's Council. During his twenty-five years in the education industry Patrick has held executive positions at Prentice-Hall Canada and Pearson Education Canada and has served on various industry panels and committees.
